Soul en estado puro a cargo de estos dos “hermanos del soul”, una pareja explosiva y contundente. “Soul Brothers” presenta la unión de dos grandes veteranos de la escena soul y blues en uno de sus mejores y mas dulces momentos de su carrera, como son Otis Clay y Johnny Rawls. Ambos artistas poseen el genio y la capacidad para cantar y captar el espíritu y la sutileza de la música soul, tanto en el estilo ‘southern’ o Motown, aunque no queda ahí la cosa, puesto que también abarcan aquel estilo más genuinamente ‘dance’ que se practicaba hace unas décadas. Rawls fue director musical y guitarrista de la orquesta de O.V. Wright durante los maravillosos años setenta y, después de la muerte de este, supo mantener la orquesta activa hasta los años noventa. A partir de entonces su carrera en solitario empezó a fraguarse jalonada de éxitos y manteniendo siempre vivo el espíritu musical de su mentor. Por su parte Clay comenzó su carrera también en los años setenta grabando para el sello Hi Records de Memphis, de donde salieron precisamente muchos de sus grandes éxitos. Aunque ambos músicos provienen del mismo campo musical, nunca habían tenido la oportunidad de cantar juntos por lo que, además de la calidad intrínseca de ambos cantantes, en éste disco queda asimismo patente el respeto y la admiración mutua que ambos músicos se profesan, y se percibe con nitidez lo bien que se lo pasaron durante toda la grabación. Los músicos que los respaldan suenan magníficos y los arreglos de los ‘metales’ coronan un disco admirable y realmente impresionante. MUY BUENO.

Here comes only pure soul performed by two “soul brothers”, who become a couple of explosive and powerful fellows. “Soul Brothers” presents the association of two great soul and blues scene veterans, Otis Clay and Johnny Rawls, both in one of the best and sweetest moments of their careers. The two artists have the genius and the skills to do an amazing singing and capture the subtle spirit of soul music, both southern or Motown, but they are masters of that genuine dancing style such in fashion few decades ago. During the seventies, Johnny Rawls was musical director and guitar player in O. V. Wright Orchestra and, after his mentor passed away, he kept active the orchestra until the nineties. Then he started a solo career with lots of successful hits, keeping always alive Wright’s musical spirit. Otis Clay also began his career during the seventies. He recorded for Hi Records in Memphis, where there came out many of his greatest hits. Although both musicians come from the same music field, they had never the opportunity to sing together until now. Besides the undeniable quality of both singers, the album clearly shows the respect and mutual admiration, but you will also notice the friendly, funny and pleasant atmosphere that surrounded the whole recording. The supporting musicians sound magnificent and the horn arrangements round up an impressive album. GREAT.
